What if Friday the 13th is a Doorway to magic and Transformation

For as long as I can remember, Friday the 13th has been viewed as a day of superstition and fear. Stories of betrayal, darkness, and misfortune have cast a shadow over this number and day, but I’ve always wondered—why? What lies beneath the surface of these beliefs?

There’s even a name for the fear of Friday the 13th: paraskevidekatriaphobia. Popular myths and tales have fueled this fear. Some trace it back to Judas Iscariot, the 13th guest at the Last Supper, whose betrayal led to Jesus’ crucifixion. Others point to Norse mythology, where Loki—the trickster god—was the 13th guest at a divine banquet, causing chaos that plunged the world into darkness.

But what if we looked at the number 13 from another perspective? Could it hold a power that’s been buried under centuries of misunderstanding?

13: A Sacred Number of the Divine Feminine

In nature, the number 13 is deeply sacred. It aligns with the cycles of life, death, and rebirth—the rhythm of existence itself and the reason why I weave 13 into the Shamanic Dragon Priestess Path.

These teachings form the 5 spirals of the Shamanic Dragon Priestess Path, a journey that invites us to honour cycles of growth, renewal, and spiritual awakening.

Even the Death card in tarot, numbered 13, carries a sacred message. Often feared, this card is not about literal death—it’s about transformation. It invites us to release what no longer serves us, to rest and reflect, and to prepare for the rebirth that always follows. This is the energy of winter and the dark goddesses—the wise crones who teach us to embrace the power of rest and retreat in the sacred darkness.

The Suppression of the Feminine Power

The fear of 13 doesn’t just stem from myths about bad luck. I believe it’s tied to the suppression of the Divine Feminine and her sacred cycles.

For example, the word “witch” comes from the Old English word “wicce,” meaning “wise woman.” Yet, over time, the word became synonymous with something dark and evil, erasing the wisdom and healing that wise women carried.

Similarly, the crone archetype—the elder feminine figure who embodies wisdom and intuition—has been distorted into a symbol of fear. The crone represents the energy of winter, a time to retreat, reflect, and connect with the mysteries of the soul. Yet her power, much like the number 13, has been shrouded in misunderstanding.

Another example is Mary Magdalene, whose legacy was deeply misrepresented for centuries. In 591 AD, Pope Gregory I declared her a “sinful woman,” associating her with the word “whore.” But in truth, “whore” originally came from the word “hora,” meaning “holy woman.” Over time, this mistranslation stripped Mary Magdalene of her sacred role as a teacher and leader.

It wasn’t until 2016 that Pope Francis officially recognized Mary Magdalene as the “Apostle of Apostles.” She was the first to witness Jesus’ resurrection through her psychic vision—a profound affirmation of the feminine gift of intuition and spiritual leadership. 

These examples remind us of a painful truth: the feminine has been suppressed, distorted, and hidden. The number 13, tied so closely to these cycles of the feminine, became a target of fear and superstition.

Reclaiming the Power of 13

For me, Friday the 13th has always felt magical. It’s a day when I’ve manifested abundance and opportunities, and I even embrace the number 13 proudly—it’s on my car’s number plate!

Yet, when I worked as a waitress, I used to question why hotels skip room 13 or restaurants avoid table 13. Now I see it clearly: 13 represents the hidden power of the Divine Feminine—a power that has been buried for centuries.

✨ It’s the number of cycles, intuition, and renewal.

✨ It invites us to step into the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth.

When we fear Friday the 13th, we’re rejecting these sacred opportunities. We’re denying ourselves the chance to connect with the cycles of nature, the wisdom of the crone, and the magic of the Divine Feminine.
